Being born in the mid-50’s, animal TV shows were everywhere. The only one I really cared about was “Lassie”. In fact, my mother almost banned me from watching – see, I could have cared less what happened to the TV Mommy & Daddy, and Timmy could still be down at the bottom of that well for all I cared. But when Lassie started that little pitiful whine, I would cry big tears.
Even at my young age, it seemed weird to me that a family of humans would cease to exist in about 5 minutes if there were not some smart animal around to show them what to do. I mean, come on: “The house is on fire, girl? Should we leave????”
If you can’t get thru everyday life without a horse whinnying a warning, a dolphin screeching at you, etc, to show you what to do…well, nature should take it’s course. I often hoped that Gentle Ben would eat that little boy & his family, just for the heck of it. “And that, boys & girls, is why we don’t keep bears as pets!”
Can’t remember an animal show about a cat, because you can just hear the cat thinking “If they don’t have sense enough to run away from the bad guys, I’M not saying anything, the hell with them”.
