16 Southern Phrases Perfect for Telling Somebody Off

I’ve said most of these, and there are plenty more where those came from, from the very subtle to the very plain.  We excel at telling folks off; my non-Southern stepdaughter described me once to a friend as “Listen to her, she can tell someone off, and you won’t even hardly know it!”  It was a proud moment for me.

I’ll pray for you:
“‘I’m gonna pray for you.’  It really has more range than bless your heart.  Translations:

  • 1. I love you and want you to have everything and anything you need.
  • 2. You’re in dire need of saving, and I’m doing what I can for you.
  • 3. I’m praying a flower pot falls on your head.” — Milyndia Joan Bray Bunn”
