Home Decor That Just Screams “Granny Chic”

Here’s this cute little article about ridding your home of items that will ‘date it’.  I don’t like it.

For starters, several items listed as ‘granny-ish’ are in the Belle’s home, and so what?  I mean, doilies are bad?  How can you have a proper home without doilies??  I like doilies, and I like antiques.  If my house was decorated to look like it came from the set of ‘Star Wars’, doilies would look out of place, but they don’t with my grandmother’s hutch, ok?

It is true that if you built a house, decorated it, and never changed it, you’d be able to pinpoint about when it was built.  For example, in the 1960’s, my folks updated our house.  Some improvements were great, like central air/heat, but others….in came the shag carpeting in all colors imaginable – red, even, in one room and the ‘shaggier’ the better! (And don’t try to tell me you didn’t have a lot of shag carpeting, I know you did.)

Almost as good – colorful appliances.  We had the best – Avocado Green!  Which along with ‘Harvest Gold’, was everyone’s favorite.

I once had a friend who rented an older house with the much rarer ‘Turquoise’.

My real point is styles and tastes come and go, but if you like it, keep it.  Chances are it might be back in style one day – although I hope not for the colored appliances!
